CASE STUDY 1: Comedy Central

THE BRIEF

Comedy Central were looking for a developer to create a Facebook application for their latest show: Lewis Black's Root of All Evil. Familiar was asked to create the application, a content management system to help maintain the application, and a hosting solution. We did all of this -- on time, and on budget.

OUR SOLUTION

Based on a creative brief provided by Comedy Central, we developed wire-frames for both the user-facing application, and the unique content management system. After ensuring our client was on board, we implemented our design, and took the application through the Facebook approval process. How long did this take? Three weeks, start to finish.

THE RESULTS

Our partners at Comedy Central were thrilled with the results. A clean, simple interface allows users to try the application on their friend's page before adding it to their own profile -- an unusual feature for a Facebook product. If you have a Facebook page you can add the application.

CASE STUDY 2: MTV Networks

THE BRIEF

When developing their Virtual Lower East Side project, MTV Networks approached the branding label of the Vice media company; a newly developed spin-off called Virtue. In co-operation with Virtue (conceptual design), and Donat Group (technical design and implementation), Familiar was tasked with defining the look and feel of the Virtual Lower East Side website.

OUR SOLUTION

Initially, we worked with Donat Group to develop wire-frames, and a functional lay-out for the site. With regular feedback from MTV and Virtue, we managed to re-develop their original site structure in under three weeks. Adapting artwork created by Matt Schoen at Vice, we followed the conceptual design laid out by Virtue, and oversaw implementation of the new design within a six-week deadline, concept to launch.

THE RESULTS

You can see the new site layout by visiting the Virtual Lower East Side.

Please note, we are not responsible for site content or maintenance.

CASE STUDY 3: Baudelaire Label

THE BRIEF

Baudelaire Label approached us to design CD packaging for an upcoming release. The Diableros, a Toronto-based band, were working on their sophomore LP (a follow-up to their Pitchfork-approved debut), and were looking for an art style that represented the bands musical style.

OUR SOLUTION

After collecting ideas from the band, Familiar set to work illustrating the album packaging. Using well-worn textures, and adhering to their concept of "striving desperately to succeed", we designed a Digipak that both the band and label were happy with. Our artwork was then used by the band to inform their Myspace page and website.

THE RESULTS

You can find a copy of "The Diableros Aren't Ready For The Country" on iTunes.
